Character
Mountaincroft is a settled neighbourhood of family homes on quiet crescents. Mountaincroft Park, off Findlay Drive, is the hub, with an accessible playground and a shaded picnic area right next to St. Mary's Catholic school.
Homes you'll find
Most homes here are detached, on mature lots with established trees. It tends to be a neighbourhood people stay in for a long time, so good homes don't come up every week.
Amenities & walkability
Along with the park and school, everyday shopping on First Street (Highway 26) is a short drive, and downtown is close by bike.
Trails nearby
The Hamilton Drain Trail runs from the Train Trail west to Saunders Street, so it's easy to get onto the network for walking and biking. (In winter, that trail is open to snowmobiles, so keep that in mind if you're backing onto it.)
Who it suits
Families who want a school and park within walking distance, and buyers looking for an established neighbourhood rather than a brand-new subdivision.
Schools & shops
St. Mary's Catholic School is right beside Mountaincroft Park. Collingwood's public elementary schools are Admiral Collingwood, Cameron Street, Connaught and Mountain View; high school students attend Collingwood Collegiate Institute (public) or Our Lady of the Bay (Catholic). School boundaries shift as town grows, so I always have buyers confirm the school for a specific address with the board's school locator before they fall in love with a house.
Peter's take
If you're backing onto a trail anywhere in town, ask me about winter use. A few trails allow snowmobiles, which some people love and some don't.
