Four seasons

Life in Collingwood through the year

Ski in winter, ride in summer, and something worth stepping outside for every month in between. Here's how the seasons shape life here, and what they mean if you're buying.

Winter

Ski days on the escarpment, then home before dark. In town, the Town grooms the Harbourview Park trails and the Georgian Trail, and the Kolapore Uplands trails are ski-only in winter. Sunset Point turns into a frosty wonderland on the coldest mornings.

For buyers: Ski-season buyers often want a mudroom, a garage and a short drive to the hills. West-end and Mair Mills homes are popular with skiers.

Spring

The trails dry out, boats go back in at the marinas, and the Downtown Farmers' Market opens on Victoria Day weekend.

For buyers: Spring is a great time to look at homes before the summer rush and to see how a property handles snowmelt and drainage.

Summer

Beaches and paddleboards, patios on Hurontario Street, Sidelaunch Days on the waterfront and the Collingwood Elvis™ Festival. Blue Mountain's bike park runs through the summer (June 27 to Aug. 28 in 2026).

For buyers: Summer brings out cottage and second-home buyers. If you love the water, look at communities with marinas and beaches like Lighthouse Point, Rupert's Landing and Blue Shores.

Fall

The escarpment turns red and gold, the Saturday market fills with harvest produce, and the Collingwood Art Crawl brings art and music downtown each September. Quiet trails, crisp mornings and fewer crowds.

For buyers: Fall is when many buyers start thinking about a ski-season place. It's also a lovely time to list, with the colours as a backdrop.

Full time, part time or someday?

Plenty of people start with a weekend place and move here full time later. If that's you, think about the home you'll want in ten years: main-floor living, a walk to the water or trail, and the right condo rules if you'll be away for stretches. I'm happy to talk it through.
