Lighthouse Point

Lighthouse Point is the big one on the west-end waterfront: more than 100 acres with a private marina, beaches, pools and a nature preserve.

Character

Lighthouse Point was built between 1989 and 2004 by Rupert Bronsdon, and it still feels like a resort. It sprawls over more than 100 acres on the bay, with a protected wetland, beaches and paths along the water. Many owners live here full time, while others use their place on weekends and through the ski season.

Homes you'll find

There are 576 units spread across 19 condominium corporations, ranging from apartment-style condos to townhomes. Each corporation has its own fees, reserve fund and rules (rentals, pets, renovations), so two similar-looking units can be quite different to own. Reviewing the status certificate is a must.

Amenities & walkability

The Rupert Bronsdon Community Centre has an indoor pool and fitness centre, and there are outdoor pools, tennis and pickleball courts, two beaches and a private marina. For groceries and shopping, the west-end stores along Highway 26 are a short drive away, and downtown is a quick drive or a longer bike ride along the waterfront trail.

Trails nearby

The Georgian Trail runs right past the west-end communities, so you can ride to Craigleith, Thornbury and all the way to Meaford. The Town's West Circle route (7.7 km) loops past the resorts too.

Who it suits

Active retirees, snowbirds who want to lock up and leave, and families or couples who want a resort-style weekend place with a pool, beach and private marina.

Schools & shops

Collingwood's public elementary schools are Admiral Collingwood, Cameron Street, Connaught and Mountain View; high school students attend Collingwood Collegiate Institute (public) or Our Lady of the Bay (Catholic). School boundaries shift as town grows, so I always have buyers confirm the school for a specific address with the board's school locator before they fall in love with a house.

Peter's take

The private marina, the boardwalks and the wetland make Lighthouse Point unique. If a boat slip matters to you, tell me early so we can ask how slips work before you buy.
